The left and right channels contain the same sounds, but the left channel is slightly ahead of the right. This allows you to use the left channel to drive the color organ and the right for speakers, so the lightning will flash just an instant before the thunder is heard. Alternately, play the track through two speakers, so the listener perceives the thunder sound as "rolling" from left to right.
